How Dental Labs Make Night Guards

Posted .

If you struggle with morning headaches or jaw pain, you might be hurting from bruxism, also known as nightly teeth grinding. We can develop you a special mouth guard (known as a night guard) that you wear while sleeping to prevent any teeth from grinding together; no one should have to hurt from bruxism if they don’t have to.

To develop your new night guard, Dr. Joseph Szymczak will take an impression of your oral cavity (through use of a mold or digital means). Once the impression has been fashioned in our office, we’ll send it to an oral workshop where the night guard will be fashioned. Using special equipment that formulates the perfect conditions, the dental lab staff will make your night guard from the impression, and once it’s over, they will send it to our office.

On a follow-up checkup, you will evaluate how the night guard fits in your mouth. The doctor will make any needed adjustments to the device to make sure they ensure your comfort. If the night guard is feeling uncomfortable, you can come back to our office for an adjustment visit.
